Our Engineering Managers need to be technical leaders and motivators who are comfortable leading these teams in a high-pressure, dynamic – and global – environment. Jobs are broadly defined and interact with Product Management, Sales and other groups at Google.

The role: Engineering Site Director

You should have with experience building a world-class R&D organization and driving technical projects in an innovative and fast paced environment. You will be responsible for creating and managing the charter of the center and for the overall planning, execution, and success of the projects. You will also provide a single point of contact for site operations with other offices and Google’s Headquarters in Mountain View, California. Our offices in Montreal are currently working on projects such as Google Toolbar and our Chrome browser.

Responsibilities:

• Represent Google across a region as a senior leader, build relationships with leading academic, government, and corporate institutions.
• Evangelize Google’s values as an organization that believes in community, creativity, fun, innovation, passion, and sound judgment.
• Lead efforts to build infrastructure, facilities, and support for site personnel.
• Recruit top notch engineers to for the Engineering center, hire and mentor senior leaders, and provide career development and professional growth for highly talented engineers and managers.
• Develop product/project ideas for local and global deployment and evaluate project requests of varying levels of scope for fit with site personnel. Allocate site resources to projects based on local and company priorities, and ensure timely delivery of all projects.

Requirements:

• Strong fundamental knowledge of computer science (MS or PhD in the field preferred). Deep experience developing and delivering consumer software on the Windows platform is desired.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience in a leadership role within engineering and research organizations managing a center, recruiting senior engineers, and being a point of contact with external organizations.
• Strong and current technical contributions, experience with commercial software development and strong coding ability, distinguished academic record, and a track record of high impact technical and leadership achievements.
• Entrepreneurial drive, demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals in an innovative and fast paced environment.
• Strategic thinker with strong operational skills.
• Software background, Internet experience.
• Strong project-management and technical architecture skills. Proven track record for product delivery.
