Job description
Purpose of the Role
To oversee all quarterly and annual US GAAP valuation and reporting activities for PL Retro. To motivate, engage and manage a team of actuaries and actuarial students. To interact with various stakeholders within the business, to communicate and present results, and to lead or participate on key projects and business iniatives.
Job Responsibilities
Lead quarterly US GAAP valuation and reporting activities:
Review system-generated (AXIS) reserves for reasonability.
Review the calculation of any non-system reserve adjustments.
Review earnings attribution and prepare earnings commentary for management.
Satisfy other Management Information reporting requirements.
Prepare quarterly US GAAP earnings forecasts, and present to management
Ensure valuation complies with S-Ox requirements.
Ensure annual US GAAP reporting requirements are met:
Loss Recognition Testing.
DAC Recoverability Testing.
Valuation system spot-checks.
Ensure other schedules, exhibits and financial statement disclosures are completed in an accurate and timely manner.
Support external review of year-end financial statements.
Assumption setting:
Assist with annual experience reviews to support best estimate liability assumptions for Business Plan, Loss Recognition Testing, Asset Adequacy Testing, pricing and Canadian Statutory valuation.
Make and document recommendations for updates to best estimate valuation assumptions.
Miscellaneous projects:
Provide actuarial input into key Business Unit strategic initiatives and projects.
Support inforce management efforts and growth initiatives as needed.
Lead a Team:
Train, coach, develop, and mentor a team of valuation actuaries and resources.
Direct, review and oversee thier work for completeness and accuracy.
Desired Skills and Experience
Essential Qualifications & Experience
FSA designation or equivalent.
At least 10 years of experience with life and health reinsurance and insurance products, preferably 5 of which are post-FSA.
Strong knowledge of US GAAP accounting standards.
Excellent understanding of actuarial methods and principles.
Experience using the GGY-AXIS actuarial software.
Management experience leading a team.
