Job description
To lead and manage the Support group for all of Dominion Securities, Estate & Trust, Direct Investing, Canadian Trading Platform, Global Asset Management and Wealth Management Operations group.
Overall accountability to set the vision and establish the strategic direction to provide leadership inline with our goal to provide exemplary service, system reliability and most importantly trust to our IT/BU Partners, and ultimately our clients. Key relationships associated to this role are; Wealth Management Technology leadership team, Wealth management Executive, T&O Directors/Executives, Architecture Leads, Resiliency Leadership, QA, and vendors (e.g. Broadridge, Temenos) as appropriate to enhance efficiency, effectiveness and resiliency of our applications/systems. Additionally this role will focus on integrating and implementing technologies to manage end to end user experience, actively manage strategic resourcing relationships and opportunities, and relentlessly focus on opportunities to manage and/or reduce our total cost of technology ownership.

The annual maintenance budget is in excess of 45MM (Including Broadridge annual support costs) across 100+ diverse and highly complex applications which include multiple execution platforms and technologies.


The role ensures that Safety/Soundness and Resiliency expectations are aligned with our business partners and technology expectations, while maintaining consistently high standards in the day to management and delivery of our many complex systems including, but not limited to; Trading, Workflow, Portfolio Management systems, Client Data Management, and Direct Investing. Additionally, the role has direct accountability for Release and Change Management across the portfolio (including all development and maintenance releases), Day to Day Operations and Major Incident Management, and the ongoing management for Audit and Compliance.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Client Focused Solutions / Relationships & Communication
Ensures strong business and technology alignment while leading a highly diverse and complex portfolio of applications and services that are highly visible, and critical to the organization.
Communicate Technology & Operations key initiatives to BU and IT stakeholders across the organization
Align/plan and execute key strategic business and IT priorities
Provides superior client experience and establishes strong relationships with senior IT, Business and Operations executives/leaders. Collaborates with colleagues across the organization to ensure commitments are fulfilled.
Forms strategic partnerships with technology and business partners in a collaborative manner
Drives end to end user performance and experience for the Wealth management business.
Responsible for communicating on issues/impacts realted to critical incidents to all key stakeholders.

Substantially Improving Efficiency and Effectiveness
Leads technology and system maintenance to ensure our applications and services continue function and operate at the highest standard
Leads the planning and execution and implementation of solutions that will enhance the Resiliency and Redundancy of our key, highly visible applications and services.
Leads application and service Total Cost of Ownership opportunity discoveries (detailed review and tuning of key high usage/consumption services)
Operate as a strategic and trusted business partner, building excellent relationships and implement significant change across people, process and technology.
Leads technology upgrades and migrations across the portfolio.
Leads and manages audits and compliance initiatives across the portfolio
Leads and manages Release/Change Management across the portfolio
Ensure the creation of teams with strong technical competencies and leadership capabilities
Active change agent/advocate across the portfolio to ensure change is well understood and executed in the best way possible.
Drives RBC’s 3rd Party Partner strategy to ensure optimal use of technology and partners while maintaining a strong base of internal subject matter expertise
Ensures the business application and systems are being developed and maintained to contribute to the overall strategic direction of the business stakeholders; enhances and supports the business processes, and adds value to the requesting RBC Business Platforms or Functional Units in achieving their goals
Provides leadership and expert counsel in establishing and implementing standards, guidelines and best practices for Release Management, Incident Management and Resiliency planning across the Wealth Management Technology.
Participates and contributes in the definition of overall systems and target architecture models in support of current and future business objectives and goals.
Seeks out industry trends and new technologies to better understand how, and if RBC can leverage solutions to enhance or obtain new capabilities
Develops in conjunction with our business and technology partners a multi-year plan, which includes the annual operating plans, technology currency roadmaps, complex staffing options, and succession planning for key staff.
Close alignment with BU/Operations support leadership teams to ensure we continue to focus on top priorities
Thinks creatively about opportunities to align RBC offerings with future client needs.
Lead the creation of production metrics (incidents, availability) and manages with a higher level of information i.e. at the trends and management indicator level
Overall Governance & oversight of all maintenance technology programs/initiatives.
