Director - Network Talk - CBC-Radio-Canada - Toronto

Job description
As a member of senior management, the Director of Network Talk participates in the strategic planning, programming, business development and implementation of strategies that ensure that the Network Department delivers innovative content that creates impact with audiences across Canada.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Network Talk, the Director is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the department, which includes anywhere from 24 to 30 network programs at any given time…everything from The Current, As It Happens and Q to weekly programs like The Sunday Edition, Quirks and Quarks and Spark.

The Director works closely with senior management to:
Ensure Talk editorial, development and digital strategies are effectively implemented and properly reviewed throughout the season
Ensure that the department delivers against key priorities
Build learning and development plans to ensure optimal performance of the staff.
The Director works closely with program leaders to:
Ensure smooth daily operation of Talk programs with regard to resources, budget and staffing

Ensure shows stay true to their mandates and program values and strictly abide by the rules of CBC’s journalistic standards and policies
Ensure program mandates are communicated, implemented and updated as needed
Participate in the program development process
Ensure all corporate initiatives are communicated and implemented
Work and interact with other departments of the Corporation when necessary.

You possess:
University/College Degree in Journalism or a business-related field
At least 5 years’ of experience in the broadcasting industry in a senior management role
Strong editorial skills
Excellent written and verbal skills
Thorough knowledge and experience in implementing programming and digital strategies in a media environment
Knowledge of media trends and changes in media consumption, technology and competition in the media industry
Knowledge of CBC programming, partners and resources available for exploitation
Significant experience in strategic planning, project management and building strategic alliances
Task management, leadership and motivational skills.
