Job description
Reporting to our EVP of Engineering, the Director of Test, Automation and Release Operations holds a key leadership position within the company.
As the head of this integral part of our Engineering organization, responsibilities include building and leading a system test and release operations organization that is accountable for all Avigilon products. S/He must have a proven track record for bringing complex software programs and hardware products to market, which includes verification, validation, test automation, release operations, maintenance management, and all inclusively as we call “productization”. The successful candidate will drive quality and delivery in all that this team delivers.
Energetic, enthusiastic, and exuding a positive “can-do” attitude, the Director of Test, Automation and Release Operations possesses strong analytical, product development, organizational and technical skills and will pay particular attention to details. The successful candidate must excel in effective management practices, including team alignment, building a solid management infrastructure, developing a pipeline of both technical and managerial leaders, scaling up an organization to meet future challenges, fostering a culture of collaboration, initiative, innovation, and business results.

The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to effectively collaborate with executives across multiple functions, and also be able to work effectively to meet critical deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
Create and execute Engineering strategies on system test, automation and release operations.
Lead and manage a test and release organization that is responsible for all system tests, automation of test cases, regression tests, and release operations for all Avigilon products
System Test: tests for End to End solution, scalability, performance, resiliency, redundancy
Automation: Automate test cases; create automated test system for continuous integration, regression and sanity tests
Regression: Ensure all baseline functionalities always work in each and every new release
Release Operations: Release management, build & configuration mgmt, release readiness review
Maintenance: Manage release maintenance; own escalation in between customer support and development team; triage fault slip thru back into automated test cases
Contribute in estimating and managing efforts for product deliveries including budget and time schedules
Continuous focus in creating an effective and efficient engineering organization while working on scaling up teams to face future challenges
Produce resource and budget requirements for your team.
Ensure all products are reliable, easy to use, profitable to produce and sell, and of the highest quality in the industry
Coordinate orderly release of product delivery with other engineering teams with new and updated revisions and versions of devices, firmware, software and so forth
Create a culture of excellence with a positive work environment, allowing the department to be creative and innovative; inspire the department to openly communicate and supportive of each other; focus the department to work towards Avigilon vision.
Measure our team success based on end results and deliverables. Recognize and reward individual's performance based on end results and deliverables, and not just on effort.
Lead the team to achieve our project milestones on time. Hold team accountable for end results by setting appropriate milestones along the way to validate progress.
People Management - lead by example; coach your staff; provide them timely feedback, performance assessments, objective setting and career development plan; recruiting and hiring; and disciplinary action as required.
Leadership - communicate and collaborate effectively within engineering and with peers across Avigilon on our objectives, strategic direction, roadmap, project deliverables & details, schedules, and milestones; provide timely conflict resolution; lead the team through changes.
Methodology - develop and implement policies and procedures that increase efficiency and reduce errors. Train and mentor the team on implementing predictable, effective and high quality focused R&D processes.
Protect Avigilon intellectual property.

Desired Skills and Experience
Leadership Capabilities and Qualifications:
Minimum of 10 years of engineering and development function and duties
Post-secondary Degree or equivalent, in engineering field
Able to work at, or re-locate to, the Vancouver global head office location
Always see the big picture; be able to think beyond area of control/domain to do what is right for Avigilon.
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Happy and positive outlook; passionate and energetic - willing to “learn, live, breath, and dream” about video surveillance products and the security market
Strong leadership skills, leading by example, driving employee commitment through actions, empowering employees to reach their full potential.
