Gensler’s Retail Practice is seeking a Design Director to join one of our Retail/Hospitality studios that focuses on retail projects of ranging program, scale, and complexity, including new retail concepts and brand evolution. This position is loc ated in our New York City office and we are seeking individuals who would be interested in relocating.
At Gensler, the Design Director is instrumental in ensuring design excellence and the creation of award winning hallmark projects to broaden and enhance our portfolio. Our Design Directors play a major leadership role, focused on design mentorship, by orchestrating the work of project teams. They work on the development and delivery of outstanding project solutions for the many dimensions of retail client work. They are involved with projects from the initial business development and marketing stages through the completion of construction and installation. During the life of a project, the Design Director will work directly with the client, team members, and a wide range of consultants and collaborators.

Responsibilities:
Lead design team through all phases of retail projects
Guide, advise, and mentor other designers on the projects
Develop design direction and leading design critiques/forums
Resolve complex design issues with innovation and practical solutions
Inspire creativity among team members
Participate in the professional development of staff
Qualifications:
Bachelor degree or foreign equivalent in Interior Design or Architecture
12+ years experience in retail design
Outstanding presentation abilities
Ability to work in a team environment, as a collaborator and director
Strong portfolio in retail design
Ability to provide critical design review to design teams, communicating design ideas and direction quickly
